Sean is a doctoral
student at the University of North Texas, where he is a teaching
fellow for the trombone studio. He maintains a small studio of
undergraduate and graduate music majors, for both classical and jazz
players. He is also a teaching assistant for the jazz arranging
department, where he teaches several labs and assists in the classes.
At UNT, Sean has
played with the North Texas Wind Symphony, lead trombone with the Two
O' Clock Lab Band, bass trombone with the Three O’ Clock Lab Band,
and as a singer with the Jazz Singers I ensemble. His trombone
quartet, the Bell Street Four, was the winner of the 2008
International Trombone Association’s quartet competition. He was winner of the Eastern Trombone Workshop's jazz trombone ensemble
competition, as a member of the "U-Tubes" jazz trombone ensemble. He was also named “honorable mention” in the ITA’s
Frank Smith Solo Competition.
Professionally, Sean
has performed with many groups in the DFW area, including orchestras, wind bands, salsa bands, big bands, top 40/cover bands, as well as various cruise ships across the globe.
As an arranger, Sean's
music has been performed by many groups at UNT, including the 1:00,
2:00 and 3:00 lab bands and the Jazz Singers I. His music has been
performed at the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington, DC, heard
on KNTU 88.1, Dallas's jazz station, as well as internationally on
Hit 94FM, in Aruba. He won an award for jazz arrangement from Downbeat
Magazine for his arrangement of "Beautiful Love".
Sean is currently
working on his doctoral degree in classical and jazz performance at
UNT, where he studies trombone with Tony Baker and jazz composition
with Paris Rutherford. Sean received his master's of music from UNT,
and bachelor's from Sam Houston State University with a degree in
music education, where he studied trombone with Henry Howey.
